These papers contain Whitehorne's letters to his family during the time his regiment participated in major battles in Virginia. Additionally, the papers include a muster roll of Co. F. One letter is from Whitehorne's sister at City Point, Va. Whitehorne writes eloquently about Chancellorsville, Bull Run, sinking of the Cumberland, and the long lines of people waiting to see the Merrimac. Referring to a rout of Yankee forces, he writes: "We gave them a genteel thrashing."
